Creating premium content that users and Google loves is (usually) the most impactful initiative you can take to improve your SEO as a software startup.
What is a Content Sprint?
A content sprint is a intense block of work where we will create a detailed SEO content strategy for your website in just a few weeks.
Benefits of a Content Sprint
- Get a year’s worth of SEO work done in 1-2 months
- No monthly retainers
- Maximise the efficiency of your content team
- See results in weeks, not months.
Summary of Key Deliverables
- Visual topic map
- Content calendar (6 months to one year)
- Detailed Content Briefs
- Writer Training
The Opportunity
Creating content that ranks in search engines can be ludicrously powerful and cost efficient way to attract new users to your product.
Here’s why:
- Connect with highly targeted audience while they’re in ‘research mode’
- Highly scalable; Google processes over 8.5 billion searchers per day with this number increasing every year
- Traffic is organic, meaning you’re not shackled to third party CPC costs and are more resilient to bear markets
- Traffic is predictable and dependable; no need to reinvent the wheel on social media every week
- Acts as another moat against competitors and positions you as an industry authority
Creating SEO content is not too dissimilar to investing, in that you’re building assets that subsequently yield dividends for years to come.
The Problem
The vast majority of software companies are doing it wrong or grossly inefficiently. This is due to a fundamental misunderstanding of how search engines work in 2023.
Without getting too nerdy, Google’s algorithms are now heavily impacted by artificial intelligence, and have subsequently evolved beyond ranking keywords and into ranking entities (people, places, things, concepts).
What does this mean for your SEO strategy?
In summary, you now have to become a topical authority to generate new customers through organic search - i.e. be the best source of information for your given topic area.
You do this by creating epic content that people genuinely love, as well as being more strategic in the topics you write about.
How I can Help
I help software companies navigate the SEO content minefield with a simple process that gets results, quickly.
This process is the result of years of working with bootstrapping startups who needed results yesterday, as well as countless hours studying nerdy search engine concepts.
The Process in More Detail
- Research Phase
This is where we will research which topics are best to target. I’ll typically use the following sources:
👀 Competitor Websites
🤖 Google’s NLP API
📕 Wikipedia
🙋♀️People Also Ask
🧞♂️Employee Interviews
📈 Ahrefs
🧠 ChatGPT
🔊Podcasts
- Pillar and Cluster Modelling
This where we will map out topics into pillars and clusters, to better understand how these topics relate to one another.
- Content Calendar Creation
Once we are agreed on the core topics, I’ll map these into a Google Sheet which outlines the top level information for each article along with a suggested publication date. Usually we’ll target topics with blog posts, but often this will include landing pages too.
- Content Briefs
I’ll then create detailed content briefs in Frase for every article which tells your writer everything they need to include in the article, from heading tags to internal links.
- Writing and Publication
At this point your writers will have everything they need to create perfect SEO content. I usually recommend a minimum cadence of five articles per month to see impact quickly.
- Check in
Each sprint includes a check in consulting session at a time of your choosing to see how you’re getting on. I’m also always at the other end of an email if the team has any questions!
